Camrail, the Cameroonian railway concessionaire, is celebrating the second anniversary of the launch of its express train between Cameroon’s two main cities, Yaoundé and Douala. To mark the occasion, the company has announced that it will soon be offering free Wi-Fi on the train.
“We would like to thank all our passengers and partners who have supported us over the last two years,” said Gilbert Nkana Pondy, Deputy Director General in charge of passenger transport at Camrail. “We are committed to continuing our efforts to serve you as well as possible. We are already planning to offer Wi-Fi on board in the near future.”
In its first two years of operation, Camrail’s express train has made 1,394 journeys, carrying 328,771 passengers. The train stops daily in secondary towns such as Edéa, and localities in rural areas such as Messondo, Eséka, Makak and Ngoumou.
The express train was launched on 1 July 2021, after the previous fast train, Intercity, was suspended following a railway disaster in Eséka in 2016. The disaster killed at least 79 people and injured 600.
The introduction of free Wi-Fi on the express train is a welcome addition for passengers. It will allow them to stay connected while traveling, whether for work or for pleasure. It is also a sign of Camrail’s commitment to providing a high-quality service to its customers.
