Let’s discover l’Association Jeunesse Verte Cameroun (AJVC) promoter of solar energy system in Cameroon using women and young people.
AJVC, is a national grassroot organization with main focus on sustainable development, women’s leadership, women’s right and Youths. It promotes a healthy environment by involving young people in sustainable project, with main focus on Solar Power Supply.
Increase Demand of Electricity
There’s relatively a huge demand for energy in Cameroon but the supply is relatively low. Worst again, in rural areas over 60% of villages are off grid.
Cameroon’s strong economic growth for more than ten years has been accompanied by a growing demand for electricity consumption nationally. Eventually, the rate of access to electricity nationally is estimated at around 62% in 2017, 60.1% in 2016, and 58.1% in 2015. This growth in demand for electricity is expected to continue to increase over the next decades.
Furthermore, the electrical operator ENEO, in charge of the management of the electrical system as a whole is having difficulty meeting this demand. Also, it is not always in a position to meet all needs, particularly during peak hours, both in terms of the quantities and quality of the electric current supply.
In response to the above, plans have been drawn up by the government with a view to strengthening production capacity in the future. But, it is certain that the necessarily long delays in the implementation of these investment programs will not make it possible to provide rapid solutions.
Innovation
To effectively contribute to solving these problems and to support economic growth, AJVC has found a revolutionizing solution. They are adopting the use of solar systems to daily life practices as to escape from the turbulence of power shutdown.
AJVC has touch several lives by donating adapted solar panel equipment to the Cameroon’s population. Two of these outreach are the donation of a Solar refrigerator to a hospital in Nomedjoh and Solar Sewing machines to Sim-stresses in Mang.
Solar Refrigetor
Nomedjoh (or Nomedjo) is a village in the East region of Cameroon, in the Haut-Nyong department. It is part of the district (commune) of Lomié. After the creation of a missionary hospital in the village, AJVC donated a Solar Refrigerator. it is regulated at a temperature of 2 to 8° degree and a box of medications. These items have been of great help to the Nomedjoh’s community and also reduced the high level of mortality due to ill health.
Solar Sewing Machine
Mang is located in the South region of Cameroon. South’s capital Ebolowa (Ébolowa) is approximately 32 km / 20 mi away from Mang. Clémentine Birma a villager of Mang benefitted from this outreach of AJVC.
Donated with a solar sewing machine and also trained on how to use this machine, it has made sewing easy. In addition, it has increased her level of performance while respecting deadlines. The project was launched in February 2022 and is still in the pilot phase but it’s expected to continue soon.
In conclusion, while waiting on the government and Eneo, let Cameroonians turn to the consumption of solar systems. Besides, it is effective and remains the best choice for a healthy environment.
